Self-heating espresso machine questions

Does a self-heating machine need a power source to brew?

Yes. The heater runs on a rechargeable battery charged over USB-DC or on a car outlet, so the machine needs that power connection to reach brew temperature. Without it, the pump can still move water but the shot will not be hot.

Can these machines use both capsules and ground coffee?

What is cold brew mode on a self-heating machine?
